Who is Matt Komo?
Matt Komo is a Director / Creator based out of Los Angeles. For nearly the last decade Matt has been the creative force behind some of the largest brands, artists, and personalities in the world that have shifted culture at large. On a global scale Matt is either directing, writing, shooting, editing, producing and / or scoring the music to the projects he is involved with. Because of this he has inspired and grown a large following in the hundreds of thousands across multiple social platforms. The value of his content is viral and expanding.
GoPro - Head of Social Content (2015-2018)
As GoPro’s former Head of Social Content, Matt was able to build out the brand’s visual aesthetic on social media by integrating his unique and instantly recognizable shooting and editing style. During his nearly 3 years time there, Matt helped 10x the brand’s presence on Instagram from 3 million to 13.6 million. He played a large part in the creative direction behind multiple product launches and global initiatives that helped elevate the GoPro brand to be synonymous with the highest quality content in the world.
“A Forgotten Life” Film - (2019-2022) - Direct, Wrote, Produced, and Edited
“A Forgotten Life” is Matt’s short subject documentary in which he Direct, Wrote, Produced, and Edited. The film is an intimate look into his grandfather's battle with Alzheimer’s. Matt premiered the film to 600 in attendance at the prestigious Director’s Guild of America. Since then, the film is a - Winner: Cannes World Film Festival and Shortlisted for - Indie Short Award Cannes and the Academy Award Qualifying Film Festivals - Doc Edge and Flicker Rhode Island.
Justin Bieber - “Our World” Documentary (2021)
An artist like Justin Bieber needs no introduction. Over the last few years Matt has collaborated closely with Justin on a variety of projects. Most notably Matt was a cinematographer on “Our World” - a documentary that takes viewers backstage and into the private world of the global superstar as he prepares for his NYE 2021 Concert. This film was sold to Amazon Prime in 2021
The Chainsmokers - “Closer” (2016) - 2.8 Billion Views - 28th Most Viewed Video in the World
“Closer” was one of the largest songs of both 2016 and also the last decade. Matt played a key role as the Director of Photography for the lyric music video - which has since amassed a wild 2.8 billion views and is currently the 28th most viewed video in the world.
The Chainsmokers - “Everybody Hates Me” (2018)
“Everybody Hates Me” was one of the most successful songs on The Chainsmokers sophomore album title “SickBoy”. The music video was nominated for a VMA in 2018 for best dance video of the year. Matt was the Director of Photography for this project.
Michael Kors - Global Men’s Techwear Campaign
Matt directed, edited, starred in, and scored the final track to Michael Kors men’s techwear fashion campaign. This advertisement was distributed worldwide and played in select Michael Kors retail stores.
Porsche x Matt Komo
In 2021 Matt partnered with Porsche to release a series of imagery and a digital commercial spot to highlight both the 911 and Taycan vehicles.
DJI - Osmo Action 2 Global Commercial (2021)
DJI is one of the largest drone and camera manufacturers in the world with around 70% market share of all consumer drones on the market as of March 2020. Matt directed, shot, edited, and scored the music to this global launch video. This project was released worldwide as DJI’s go to marketing asset. This film played in Best Buy’s and Target’s globally.
Yes Theory - Becoming Superhuman with IceMan - Wim Hof Documentary (2019)
Becoming Superhuman chronicles the Dutch extreme athlete Wim Hof as he teaches his revolutionary “Wim Hof Method” to Yes Theory (YouTube channel with 7M+ subscribers) As the cinematographer braving the freezing cold elements of Poland, Matt was an integral part of capturing the visuals for the documentary. This film currently has 16M+ views online.
Nyjah x MVMT
Nyjah Huston is considered to be the greatest contest skateboarder of all time. The olympian collaborated with MVMT watches in 2021 to release his one of a kind pro model watch. Matt directed and edited this commercial spot for the brand and athlete.
